Truck Driver ELD Study
We want to understand the challenges that trucking companies (and their drivers) face in using electronic logging devices – from installation and training to the day-to-day use of ELD systems.
We’re recruiting drivers with (or owners of) small to mid-sized trucking companies to participate in a research project that will be conducted during the weeks of January 27th and February 3rd.
Research study vision
Our client wants to understand the obstacles that trucking companies deal with in getting the most out of their ELD systems. The goal is to put our client in the passenger’s seat so that they might have a deeper understanding of the day to day lives of truck drivers (and trucking company owners). Here are a few of the topics our research study will cover:
What do drivers (and owners) love about their ELD systems? What works? What doesn’t work? Where is there room for improvement?
How do ELD providers make it easy for drivers to install (and learn how to use) an ELD system for the first time?
What opportunities exist for an ELD system to make truck driving more predictable – and more fun!
the purpose of this study
One of our clients has asked us to talk to drivers with (and owners of) trucking companies in pursuit of a new perspective. Why? In order to understand how technology can be used to help small and mid-sized motor carriers better deal with the complexity in trucking.
To do so, we’re conducting a series of driver ride-alongs in order to observe the impact of ELD systems on truckers’ lives. We’ll also talk to drivers about opportunities to build the best ELD experience – something that’s easy to use and fits with what they need.

Let's talk about how ELD’s have impacted the trucking industry (and where there might be some room for improvement)!
Here are the details:
Each driver ride-along and interview will last anywhere from four to eight hours. The duration really depends on the driver’s schedule, destination and available hours of service. We’re happy to meet drivers at locations most convenient for them. (We promise we won’t be a hassle.)
Before scheduling the observation, we’re happy to have an introductory phone call with the owner, fleet manager, dispatcher, etc. to share the specifics of how the ride-along will unfold, who will conduct the ride-along, etc.
The day before each observation, we’ll have an introductory phone call with the driver just to give him or her a sense of what to expect, coordinate where to meet up and so on.
We promise to be absolutely respectful of each driver’s time, job duties and space. For over-the-road drivers, their trucks are their offices AND their homes. We get that, and we’ll honor that completely. We won’t be a distraction. (Hell, part of doing our job well is ensuring your drivers enjoy our time together.)
Study participants will be kept anonymous.
Spots are limited. First come, first served!
Drivers (and/or trucking company owners) who participate will be compensated with a $200 VISA or Amazon gift card for their time and insight.
